Sisters in Kuala Lumpur
19 November 2014
My stay at the Shangri-La actually got off to a rough start. My siblings (two younger sisters and a younger brother, I’m the eldest) and I had booked rooms at the Shangri-La in Kuala Lumpur to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and we were all very excited because it would be our first family reunion in a long time. Unfortunately, tragedy struck in the form of Typhoon Haiyan, and my mother and brother who both live close to Tacloban, were unable to come with me and my sisters. This was disappointing and troubling in more ways than one: we wouldn’t be able to celebrate our mother’s birthday with her, our family reunion would not be happening, and we had booked three suites although now it looked like we would only need one. My sisters and I were at a loss for what to do, but thankfully, the wonderfully amazing staff members at the Shangri-La were there to save the day!
First, they allowed us to switch our room arrangement around so that we would only have to pay for the one room we would be using. The staff also made sure that we were comfortable and were always quick to meet any requests we had. In fact, they even surprised us with a cake brought to our room for our mother’s birthday, so that even though she was miles away, we could still celebrate with her in spirit. Everyone at the Shangri-La simply makes the effort to go the extra mile and it really shows; their hard work is awe-inspiring.
I’m no stranger to travel, and I’ve stayed in all types of resorts and hotels, but I can safely say that the Shangri-La is one of the best. Between my sisters and I, it was our first time staying at a Shangri-La hotel and we were thoroughly impressed. The service is impeccable, the luxury furnishings and the interior design were grand. The location was perfect, the scenery of Kuala Lumpur itself is breathtaking, and the tours we took around Kuala Lumpur were worth the trip.
Our stay was exactly one year ago this month, and my mom just celebrated her birthday once again; the reunion did not happen, but being able to bond with my sisters just cemented our sisterhood and was glorious and memorable. I will definitely stay at the Shangri-La on my future travels.
