Shangri-La Hotel, Paris is a wonderful place. The building is full of heritage and treasures, really like a palace. The size is just right for this kind of exclusive ambience, if much bigger it would loose much of its charm.
The service is outstanding, multilingual, experienced staff makes sure that the guest is well attended and has a warm and welcome feeling throughout. Unfortunately there is only one restaurant open at this time, The Bohimia which is kind of the "Coffee Garden", but very elegant and excellent food. The Fine Dining L'Abeille is closed for renovation, seems they are changing a bit the design and doing some deep cleaning in August, which is low season here. The Shang Palace is in testing stage by the staff.
We also took a tour through the different kitchens and backstage areas, very interesting. I had a quick chat with Frederic Madre (a member of the hotel managerial team) who gave us a very detailed tour and explained the history of the building.
The location is in a prestigious residential area surrounded by embassies and some famous corporate buildings. Unfortunately, it is quite a distance to the tourist center of Paris, which is a bit of a disadvantage for tourist activities. They should offer a shuttle bus service in the morning for the guests that want to visit the center for sightseeing or just walking around.
Our room is perfect, with an undisturbed view to the Eiffel Tower from the comfortable terrace.
All-in-all, it’s a different concept, living in a palace which used to be the residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte, unique and very special, with outstanding service.
I feel it will sell fast in fancy and posh Paris.
