Mythical, Mystical, Magical Langkawi
27 March 2014
Langkawi, the jewel island off the northwest of Malaysia is indeed a jewel in its own right. A land once thought to be cursed for generations by the legend of Mahsuri, this island has so much to see and do.
From luxury resorts to backpacker inns, Langkawi offers many options for all types of travelers. There are also many beaches worth visiting, namely Pantai Cenang, which is famous for its long white sandy beaches and laid back vibe. Have a drink or two at Yellow Cafe, or go for a parasailing trip around the island. The choice is yours! We spent the whole day at Pantai Cenang and still were not able to get enough of it at the end.
Renting a car is highly advisable as Langkawi is a pretty big island with its own rainforest in between. Head onwards to the Oriental Village, hop on the cable car and be prepared to be amazed at the breathtaking views of the islands, waterfalls and more while heading up to the peak of Mount Machinchang. That's a whole days worth of activities itself.
We also rented a private speed boat and toured the other smaller islands around. Feeding eagles was certainly a highlight of the day trip. It was amazing watching these creatures swoop down into the sea just meters away from our boat to feed. Beras Basah beach is also recommended as part of the day trip on the boat as it has the softest white sand and clear turquoise waters to dip in.
Who can resist seafood when you're on an island? Not us! We ate so much fresh seafood and were just spoilt with culinary choices. From great Italian at L'Osteria Restaurant to the Chinese seafood restaurants, we just couldn't stop ordering!
After so much excitement, there was just one last thing to do and that was to check into the IShan Malaysian Spa for a moment of pampering indulgence.
The only thing missing from such a glorious island is the presence of our favorite luxury hotel -
