My Thai Palace
14 August 2014
The summer holidays were approaching and nothing beats a vacation at the Chiang Mai Shangri-La Hotel. The hotel is truly a palace of serenity and relaxation in the heart of a tropical oasis.
It was an early Monday morning when I stepped foot into the luxurious lobby of the 5 star Shangri-La hotel. Before I could even open my mouth to speak, a staff member rushed up to welcome me. Already, I could feel a sense of warmness and generosity in the staff members smile.
After checking-in, the staff member led me to my suite I had requested. The moment she opened the door, I could feel excitement bubbling up inside me. The Premier Suite was beautifully furnished with a touch of contemporary Thai design. It was a cozy yet grand room, with large, sweeping windows boasting the glamorous city view. Even the marble ensuite bathroom smelled of the hotel’s signature fragrance, “Shangri-la Essence.”
Exhausted from my 16 hour flight, I decided to change into my swim gear and hop down to the pool for a quick break. The water down there was crystal clear, as I dipped my feet in to cool myself down. After a while, my husband and I lay down on the soft and cushiony beds to sunbathe and read a book or two. A waiter came round and offered us a basket of tender fruit and smoothies which were just perfect for the weather. At that moment, I felt like royalty in my Chanel sunglasses, served by polite waiters and relaxing by the glistening poolside.
My stomach was growling by the time I had dried myself. Only one thing was on my mind. And that was a five letter word- lunch! I knew exactly where to go, the Thai buffet in the hotel.
At exactly 2:00, I grabbed my bag and strolled out of the hotel. I wandered around the city, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and shopping in malls.
3 days of ultimate fun passed and it was time to go back to the airport, heading home. But it still feels like yesterday when I arrived at the Shangri-la Hotel Chiang Mai!
