in Kota Kinabalu

I and my family were in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu for 3 nights. I checked in at 2pm but the room that I wanted didn't ready yet by 3pm. So we had to waited for but over time we couldn't get any call from the reception. Later I knew the room-ready time was delayed a half hour but we could have a temporary room instead of. And we should have waited till 5pm in there and the reception repeated 'We'll call you for a half hour' while we called to them.
Finally I and my sister went out to the reception but the reception guy strongly scolded to us and said that we made a situation by ourselves.
Nobody cared us and that's why we should have waited for 4 hours and we couldn't make any plan. But everybody said that 'It's not my faults'
We called one manager and we accepted her sincere apologizes. It looked like the situation is over but we felt so bad whenever we saw the reception guy never look toward us or tell any mention of sorry. So we couldn't help but doubt "Are they really feeling sorry to us?"
