Capping the day in Xochimilco
05 August 2012
In 2010, I went to Mexico City for four days only, yet it was probably the most memorable trip ever. One thing we did on our third day in Mexico City was go on a tour of Coyoacan and San Angel, which were small towns within Mexico City. First, we visited Diego Rivera's and Frida Kahlo's studios and Frida Kahlo's house. It was so fascinating to see their workspace. One can imagine what it was like to be living and working at their studio. We then went to UNAM, Mexico' premier university. It was awesome to see murals by world-renowned artists like Diego Rivera. To cap the day tour, we visited Xochimilco where a series of canals were the main attraction of the small town. In the old days, small lake beds were created to grow crops. One can ride a colorful trajinera and enjoy the sights and sounds of people dancing and mariachis serenading visitors. Food is also sold by different merchants on the long boats. It was during this trip that I realized that i should cherish every moment.
