Best Family-Friendly Resort- Shangrila's Mactan Resort
18 September 2014
Visiting Cebu has long been on my wishlist, even before starting a family. We finally got that chance, and our stay at Shangrila's Mactan Resort did not disappoint despite the accompanying huge anticipation and expectations.
The resort is simply a paradise on earth, lush green gardens far away from the hustle and bustle, with facilities that will satisfy your every need and service with a smile. Coming here was definitely the ideal getaway for tired souls sorely in need of rejuvenation.
We had endless fun splashing at the swimming pools sprawled over a large area with slides and play areas specially designed for kids. Just a stone's throw away is the beach area with the azure sea in the background making for an enchanting sight. The amazingly clear water allowed for snorkeling and we were amazed that schools of colourful fish could be seen right up to the shore! The kids had fun building sandcastles with the toys that the resort provides. How thoughtful. We also particularly liked the ice cream stall right next to the pool which served up delicious ice cream for very reasonable prices. I must confess that I was never a big fan of the sun, sand and the sea in the past but this trip has made me such a convert that I didn't even realise I got sunburnt.
After a quick bath, it was time to check out the rest of the indoor facilities, which included the children's play area, E zone arcade, Karaoke and spa. We also got the chance to sample the cuisine on offer, which we found to be of great variety and caters to all palates.
With so much to offer at the resort, we were rather reluctant to go sightseeing but Cebu does have its share of historic buildings and artefacts if one is keen on such things. There are also a number of malls for shopping. We particularly loved the view from tops, which offers a commanding and panoramic view of Cebu, with Mactan and Bohol in the background. For those keen on experiencing more great beaches, Cebu is also a convenient gateway for island hopping tours.
All in all, we had a fantastic time spending quality time with our family. We were pleased to observe that the kids were so occupied that they no longer fought for the tab and other electronic devices. They even forgot about their usual favourite television cartoon programmes. On our last day, the kids begged us not to leave and I must say that we felt sorry to be leaving such an idyllic place so soon
