A Very Good Year

2012 Shangri-La highlights

A Very Good Year

An exciting year for Shangri-La, 2012 was filled with a plethora of events around the globe. In August, Golden Circle members were treated to an exclusive wine tasting at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo, where they had the opportunity to taste four New World wines and learn about each from wine ambassadors. Paolo Pelosi, chef of the signature Italian restaurant Piacere, completed the evening with an elaborate menu to complement the wines, served against a dazzling backdrop of Tokyo Station and Marunouchi.

In September, Michelin two-star Shang Palace at Kowloon Shangri-La celebrated its official reopening after a four-month renovation with a party to unveil its new look. Attended by celebrities, socialites, loyal hotel guests and the press, guests were treated to an evening of superb culinary delights prepared by Executive Chinese Chef Mok and his team, and had the opportunity to explore the restaurant’s new wine cellar, grand private dining room and upgraded facilities. Guests took home a unique souvenir of chopsticks engraved with Shang Palace and the reopening month and year in Chinese characters.

Keen to promote sports and wellbeing, Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai invited Golden Circle members to the first Kerry Kup Golf Event at the Agile Binhai Golf Club in Shanghai in November. Guests mingled with key industry players over an 18-hole round of golf, complete with snacks, refreshments and The BREW’s signature craft beers. A dinner and prize presentation followed, where more than RMB100, 000-worth of prizes were awarded to the best players and lucky draw winners.

Golf was also a highlight at the Drive for ARC at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and Spa, Singapore. A collaboration with the Sentosa Golf Club and the World Sport Group, the event raised SGD128,000 for the ARC Children’s Centre, a day centre for children with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.  This marks the second year of the resort’s efforts for ARC Children’s Centre, who raised SGD100,000 in 2011, and the seventh consecutive year that the resort has held a charity golf tournament. Held on the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course, 120 golfers, including Singapore Golden Circle Diamond members, participated.

Finally, members were treated to a day out on the field for the annual Polo in the City event at Sydney’s famous Centennial Park in a private marquee with nibbles and free-flowing champagne. The first Polo match was followed by the famous divot stomp and guests enjoyed endless platters of food while watching the final Polo match, Parade of the Horses, the Fashions on the Field show and a live charity auction.
