Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo was selected number one in the Top 25 Luxury Hotels in the World category at the Traveler’s Choice 2012 Awards by Tripadvisor, the world’s largest online community of travellers. Based on international reviews and opinion, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo won first place in the Luxury 4 and 5 star category and was the first Japanese hotel to win the Traveler’s Choice Award.

The Traveler’s Choice Awards are held every January and 2012 is the 10th anniversary of the event. This year, categories were expanded to include 30 countries and eight regions worldwide. A total of 3,943 properties were recognised by the US-based company. Judging involved the evaluation of 60 million comments from users on the quality of service, guest rooms and price. Other awards included Best Service, Best Bargain, Trendiest Hotel and Best Relaxation and Spa.

Reviewers praised the service and facilities at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo. “The service was simply flawless, from the concierge team that met me at Tokyo station and escorted me to the hotel, to the reception who organised my daily business excursions,” said one reviewer. “I loved the cotton pyjamas they laid out for me each day. Getting into them after a shower at the end of a long day was just so relaxing.” commented another.

The 200-room Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo opened on 2 March 2009 as Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' first property in Japan.  The hotel occupies the top 11 floors of the Marunouchi Trust Tower Main building.

Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver was also named the number one luxury hotel in Canada by TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice Best Hotels Awards 2012 in the category, Top 25 Luxury Hotels in Canada. The hotel also placed in Top 25 Hotels in Canada and Top 25 Trendiest Hotels in Canada.

Comments about Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver included “The men and women at this hotel made our stay the most memorable night in our lives.”  Another guest praised the culinary offerings and said, “The added advantage of this hotel is that the Jean George Restaurant "Market" is located in house. This would be possibly the best restaurant we have ever been to. The sable fish on the menu was just perfection.” Another review added, “The bed was quite possibly the most comfortable bed we had ever slept in – it felt like a cloud.” 

The 119-room Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver, located in vibrant downtown Vancouver, BC, occupies the first 15 floors of a 61-storey landmark building, the tallest in the city.
