The time is 5 a.m. at Haneda Airport. You’d think I’d be really grumpy from the lack of sleep, but I can’t help smiling as I breeze through immigration. I’ve always loved Japan and I love it even more now that I do not need to apply for a visa to visit.

On the coach was an assortment of people from around the world – two Chinese girls studying in London, a young couple from Greece, two American women taking their annual holiday together and a very fit-looking German couple who looked like they should be climbing the Giant’s Causeway instead of sitting on a coach.
